A Tradition of Learning and Practice

At Wuyi Chinese Martial Arts Center, training is grounded in established martial arts traditions passed down through generations of dedicated teachers and practitioners. These traditions provide a foundation of sound technique, practical knowledge, and disciplined practice while allowing students to continue developing their skills throughout their lives.

Traditional Northern Shaolin Kung Fu & Yang Style Tai Chi

Sifu Scott began studying martial arts at the age of seven and grew up training extensively under his father, Master David Scott Sr. Under his father’s guidance, he developed a strong foundation in Traditional Northern Shaolin Kung Fu and Yang Style Tai Chi, including fundamental techniques, forms, weapons, and practical applications.

Master Scott Sr. studied Kung Fu under several instructors, with his principal training under Master Hwang H.C. while stationed in Korea with the United States Army. Master Hwang, in turn, studied under Grandmaster Lee De Jiang, a Chinese martial arts teacher originally from China. This lineage represents an important part of the martial arts tradition passed down to Sifu Scott.

Sifu Scott continues to study under his father while also serving as a Senior Instructor at the Southwest Institute of Martial Arts, which Master Scott Sr. established in Lawton, Oklahoma, in 1978. His father’s instruction remains a central influence on his lifelong study and teaching of Chinese martial arts.

Contemporary Wushu

Sifu Scott began studying Contemporary Wushu in 1992 under Master Guo Jianhua at Championship Martial Arts Academy in Chicago, Illinois. Master Guo was a member and coach of the Hubei Professional Wushu Team and an instructor at the Wuhan Institute of Physical Education in Wuhan, China. He provided extensive instruction in fundamental techniques, forms, weapons, flexibility, and conditioning. His teaching has been a significant influence on Sifu Scott’s development and understanding of Contemporary Wushu.

Sifu Scott has also received instruction from Master Luo Minghan at the Louhan Wushu Kung Fu Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. A former member of the Hubei Professional Wushu Team, Master Luo provided additional perspectives and techniques that have contributed to Sifu Scott’s martial arts knowledge and practice.

Additional Martial Arts Training

In addition to his Chinese martial arts training, Sifu Scott studied Kyokushin Karate extensively under Master John Wesley Cozart. This training emphasized striking techniques, physical conditioning, kumite (sparring), and practical fighting applications, contributing to his broader understanding of martial arts.

He has also studied Judo and Aikido, gaining additional exposure to different approaches to martial arts techniques and training.

Continuing the Tradition at Wuyi

At Wuyi Chinese Martial Arts Center, Sifu Scott draws upon decades of training and teaching experience to provide students with a strong foundation in Chinese martial arts. His approach emphasizes sound technique, disciplined practice, practical skills, and an understanding of the principles underlying each art.

Through Traditional Northern Shaolin Kung Fu, Contemporary Wushu, and Tai Chi, Wuyi seeks to preserve established training traditions while helping students develop the knowledge, abilities, and appreciation needed to continue practicing throughout their lives.
